Pont de Liège, Cable-stayed bridge in Liège, Belgium
Pont de Liège is a cable-stayed bridge crossing the Meuse River with a central support tower approximately 76 meters tall. The structure spans about 328 meters in total length and carries road traffic between neighborhoods.
A ferry operated at this crossing from the 15th to 19th century before various bridge structures were built. The current bridge was completed in 2000 to replace earlier crossing methods.
The bridge links neighborhoods on either side of the Meuse and shapes how residents move through the city daily. It has become a familiar landmark that people use without thinking much about it.
The bridge carries the N667 road connecting Liège with Herstal on a 22-meter-wide deck. It is designed for regular traffic flow and accessible for all types of vehicles.
The bridge features an inverted Y-shaped support system designed by Bureau Greisch. This engineering approach represents modern cable-stayed bridge design.
