Plateau-Central Region, Administrative region in central Burkina Faso.
Plateau-Central Region is an administrative division in central Burkina Faso comprising three provinces: Ganzourgou, Kourwéogo, and Oubritenga. The territory contains elevated plains interspersed with river valleys, woodland areas, and seasonal water sources that drain toward several major waterways.
The region was created in 2001 when Burkina Faso reorganized its administrative system to create new territorial divisions. Ziniaré was chosen as the regional capital for this newly formed area.
Mossi, Fulani, and Bissa communities live across the region, each maintaining distinct ways of building homes, organizing markets, and celebrating occasions. Walking through villages and towns, you notice how these different groups have shaped local architecture and daily routines.
The region is connected by roads linking its provinces, departments, and villages throughout the territory. Visitors should check local road conditions before traveling and plan visits around market days when exploring rural settlements.
Three major river systems flow through this region, each shaping the landscape and water patterns distinctly. These waterways influence both the climate conditions and farming practices of local communities across the area.
