Hisarya

Hisarya is a spa town in Plovdiv Province built around naturally occurring mineral springs of varying temperatures. Multiple hot water sources emerge throughout the town center and are channeled into modern bath facilities and treatment centers for visitors.

The settlement was established in 293 AD under Emperor Diocletian and quickly grew into one of the larger cities of the Roman province of Thrace. Its importance from the start was rooted in the healing properties of its hot springs.

The town's identity centers on its hot springs, which have drawn people seeking healing for centuries. This sense of water as a source of renewal still shapes how visitors move through and experience the place today.

The town is accessible year-round with most facilities within easy walking distance of the center. Visitors should bring a swimsuit and comfortable shoes to explore the local bath houses and treatment rooms, which welcome day visitors.

The southern gate in the ancient walls has two stone structures that resemble camels, giving the entrance its distinctive name. This unusual landmark is a Roman-era remnant that still surprises visitors today.
