Plovdiv Regional Historical Museum, History museum in central Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
Plovdiv Regional Historical Museum is an institution with four separate exhibition spaces located in different historic buildings throughout the city. Each of these locations presents regional objects, documents, and artifacts spanning several centuries of the city's past.
The museum was founded in 1951 and grew into a collection of over 60,000 objects from different periods. Its holdings span from the 15th century through modern Bulgarian history and document the region's long continuity.
The museum displays objects that document the daily life of various populations who lived in Plovdiv over time. The exhibitions show how different groups shaped the city and what their contributions meant to its growth.
The exhibitions are open Monday through Friday from 09.30 to 18.00 and on weekends from 09.30 to 17.00. Since the collection spreads across several buildings, visitors should allow time to move between the different exhibition locations.
One of the exhibition buildings was designed by Pietro Montani and houses an exhibition about the Unification of Bulgaria in 1885. The building itself was created during that same historical period, linking the architecture directly with the displayed theme.
