Kom Peak

The peak rises to 2016 meters with steep rocky slopes to the north and gradual grassy inclines stretching southward in the western Balkan Mountains.

The first documented group expedition to traverse the Kom-Emine trail, which starts from this peak, was organized in 1953 across the Balkan Mountains.

Bulgarian writer Ivan Vazov commemorated the peak in his poem 'On Kom', leading to the installation of a bas-relief plaque with his image at the summit.

The ascent from Kom chalet takes approximately two hours, while alternative routes from Petrohan Pass or the villages of Komshtitsa require about three hours.

The Nishava River, flowing as a major tributary of the South Morava, originates on the eastern slopes of Kom Peak.
