Wine Museum, Cave museum in Kaylaka Park, Pleven, Bulgaria.
The Wine Museum uses a natural cave system beneath Kaylaka Park with five connected rooms spanning about 650 square meters. The space holds thousands of bottles from different periods, ranging from older vintages to current regional productions.
The museum was founded in 2008 when Bulgarian and French experts collaborated to create it. This was the first wine institution of its kind on the Balkan Peninsula.
The museum shows how people in this region have made and stored wine for generations. The way bottles are displayed here reflects local pride in winemaking traditions and methods that have been passed down.
The underground chambers are temperature-controlled to keep bottles in optimal conditions, so the environment stays stable year-round. Visitors should expect cool temperatures below ground and bring comfortable shoes for walking.
The museum stores wines in about 100 French oak barrels within the underground chambers. These special containers are essential for aging and preserving wines that are kept beneath the earth.
