Pleven Regional Historical Museum

Pleven Regional Historical Museum is a two-story building near the city center that houses more than 5,000 artifacts displayed across 24 exhibition halls. The collection spans different periods from ancient times to modern eras and covers archaeology, history, ethnography, and natural sciences.

The museum was founded in 1953 but traces back to an Archaeological Society established in 1903 that conducted early excavations of the Roman fortress Storgosia. This early fieldwork created the foundation for collecting and preserving regional artifacts that form the basis of the museum today.

The museum presents how different peoples and periods shaped local traditions through its archaeology, history, and ethnography sections. You can see handcrafted objects and clothing from earlier generations that reveal how residents lived and what mattered to them in daily life.

The museum is located within walking distance of the city center and easy to reach on foot. Plan for several hours to explore the different departments and exhibition halls at a comfortable pace.

The museum holds a numismatic collection of around 25,000 coins from various ancient and medieval cultures. This collection reveals trading routes and economic connections between different peoples over many centuries.
