Kaylaka, Urban park in Pleven, Bulgaria.
Kaylaka is an urban park set inside a limestone valley on the edge of Pleven, with the Tuchenitsa River running along its floor. The park has artificial lakes, rock climbing routes, tennis courts, a swimming pool, and areas for boating.
Work to turn the valley into a public park started in 1946 and was one of the largest civic projects of that period in Pleven. Facilities were added gradually over the following decades, shaping the park into what visitors see today.
A summer theater sits within the park and hosts performances during the warmer months, drawing people from Pleven for open-air evenings. The presence of this venue gives the park a social role that goes beyond a simple green space.
The ground is uneven in many areas, so sturdy footwear makes walking much more comfortable throughout the visit. Summer offers the widest range of activities, though the valley stays cooler than the rest of the city and is worth visiting in any season.
A restaurant was built inside the natural limestone caves on the hillside, using the rock itself as walls and ceiling. Dining inside a cave within a city park is something found in very few places anywhere.
