Trimontsium Hotel in Plovdiv, Hotel in Bulgarien
The Trimontsium Hotel is a four-star hotel located in central Plovdiv and offers rooms along with facilities including an outdoor pool and dining area. The building features 1950s architecture with classic design across four floors, though some rooms and facilities show signs of age and use.
The hotel opened in September 1956 after about a year of construction and was designed by architects Boris Yolov and Stefan Todorov. The first manager, Vladimir Kostov, named it Trimontium after the ancient Roman name of the city.
The hotel takes its name from Trimontium, the ancient Roman name for Plovdiv, reflecting the city's deep historical connection. It was once a gathering place where people came for drinks, dates, and social evenings in the garden, making it a part of local memory.
The hotel sits in central Plovdiv with easy access to main attractions like the old town and Roman theater. Visitors should note that elevators are older and sometimes slow, so stair access may be helpful for getting around.
Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin visited the hotel in 1961 and left a handwritten message in the guestbook thanking the staff for their hospitality. In his note, Gagarin jokingly wished that future visitors from other planets would one day stay here.
