Grão-Pará Ecological Station, Ecological research station in Pará, Brazil
Grão-Pará Ecological Station is a research center located in Amazon rainforest terrain with varied topography and multiple ecosystem zones. The site protects diverse habitat types that draw scientists to study the region's wildlife populations.
The station was established in 2006 through government action and formed part of a larger conservation initiative in northern Pará. It was created alongside other protected areas in response to growing regional conservation efforts.
The station maintains partnerships with scientific institutions to study the 125 fish species, 62 amphibians, 68 reptiles, and 355 bird species within its boundaries.
Access requires advance permission from authorities before visiting. Travel to the location depends on helicopters or small aircraft, as conventional road and water routes are limited in this remote area.
The location contains portions of two major Amazon river systems that together form an extensive network of waterways. These river landscapes shape the surrounding habitats and allow research on aquatic ecosystems.
