Buttermilk Falls, Terraced ribbon waterfall in Red Hill Valley, Hamilton, Canada
Buttermilk Falls descends roughly 23 meters across several limestone steps, creating a white cascade that flows into a deep gorge beside Red Hill Creek. The water moves in multiple drops over the terraced rocks below.
The area was shaped during Hamilton's urban development but retained its natural character through conservation efforts. The valley surrounding the gorge was preserved to maintain the original landscape.
The falls are part of the local natural heritage and draw walkers who want to explore the canyon. Visitors come to experience the power of water flowing against the limestone cliffs.
Access is through Oak Knoll Park with the Bruce Trail running around the canyon edge. The path along the rim offers the best views of the water and rock faces.
The water changes appearance with the seasons, flowing strongest in spring and after heavy rain. The power of the cascade is most dramatic when snow melts or substantial rainfall occurs.
