Etobicoke North, Federal electoral district in Toronto, Canada
Etobicoke North is a federal electoral district in the northwestern part of Toronto that includes residential neighborhoods such as Rexdale, The Elms, Humberwood, and Thistletown. The area features a mix of older and newer houses, parks, and shopping streets that serve the local communities.
The electoral district was established in 1976 through a consolidation of territories from Etobicoke and York West, creating a new federal riding. This restructuring created separate representation in the House of Commons starting in 1979.
The area is shaped by communities speaking English, Punjabi, and Gujarati, with strong ties to South Asian and Caribbean traditions visible in everyday life. This mix appears in local shops, places of worship, and neighborhood gatherings throughout the district.
The Etobicoke North GO Station serves as the main transit hub, offering regular train connections across the Greater Toronto Area. Local bus routes and streetcar lines connect the neighborhoods to shopping centers, schools, and other community facilities.
During the 2012 electoral redistribution, the district expanded by adding territory from Etobicoke Centre, which shifted its boundaries and population. This adjustment reflected changes in Toronto's growing communities and how representation evolved over time.
