Bala's Museum, Literary museum in Bala, Canada
Bala's Museum is a literary museum in Bala, Ontario, housed in a former tourist home and dedicated to author Lucy Maud Montgomery. The collection includes her personal belongings, rare books, foreign editions of her works, and replicas such as a miniature Avonlea schoolhouse.
The building was a dining and lodging establishment in 1922 when Montgomery and her family stayed there for two weeks. This visit inspired the author to write her novel The Blue Castle.
The museum displays items that once belonged to Montgomery, such as her silver tea set and correspondence basket. These personal objects give visitors a sense of how the author lived and worked.
The museum operates from June through October with scheduled tours available. Visitors should book in advance to guarantee entry at their preferred time.
The museum houses one of Canada's largest replicas of the Green Gables farmhouse. It is also the only museum dedicated to the author outside Prince Edward Island.
