Royal Muskoka Hotel, Historic resort building in Muskoka District Municipality, Canada
Royal Muskoka Hotel was a luxury resort on the shore of Lake Rosseau with two three-story guest wings connected by a central building featuring a rotunda and verandah. The complex included tennis courts, a nine-hole golf course, lawn bowling greens, and a boathouse providing direct lake access.
The hotel was built in 1901 by the Muskoka Lakes Navigation Company as the region developed into a popular summer destination. A fire completely destroyed the structure in 1952, marking the end of this major resort property.
The hotel attracted wealthy families from Canada and the United States who spent their summers there as part of the social season. Guests used the facilities for both leisure and social gatherings, making it a center for the region's elite.
The resort was accessible by a dedicated steamship service that brought guests directly from the water. The lakeside location meant visitors relied on this water transport to reach the property.
The SS Sagamo, a steamship built specifically for the hotel route, regularly transported guests between the resort and other locations in the Muskoka Lakes region. This vessel was a key part of the tourism infrastructure that allowed visitors to explore the wider area.
