Queen's Gates, Ceremonial entrance gates at Parliament Hill, Ottawa, Canada
The Queen's Gates feature two cast iron main gates set into the Wellington Wall fence, marked by stone piers in Victorian High Gothic style.
Installed in 1876 during the reign of Queen Victoria, the gates have functioned as the primary entrance to Parliament Hill for nearly 150 years.
The gates form a central axis with other national symbols including the Centennial Flame and Peace Tower, representing Canadian governmental institutions.
The gates require periodic maintenance due to exposure to winter conditions, with restoration work conducted to prevent deterioration from salt and pollution.
The central vehicular gates weigh 907 kilograms and needed specialized equipment for removal during the current restoration project in Montreal.
