Project Turnaround, Youth detention center in Hillsdale, Ontario, Canada.
Project Turnaround was a secure facility in Hillsdale, Ontario that housed young male offenders between 16 and 18 years old. The institution operated under strict military protocols and structured each day with a regimented 16-hour schedule.
The facility opened in 1997 as part of Premier Mike Harris' response to rising youth crime rates in Ontario. It closed in 2004 after operating for several years as a specialized institution for young offenders.
The program emphasized learning practical skills and attending classes within a structured environment focused on mutual respect. Staff members worked to teach responsibility and provide pathways away from the criminal justice system.
The site is no longer accessible as an active facility since it closed and is not available for public visits. Information about its history is available only through archives and records from its years of operation.
In 2003, a mold outbreak forced the transfer of roughly two dozen inmates to other provincial facilities. This incident ultimately led to the permanent closure of the site a year later.
