Oberalpstock

Oberalpstock is a mountain summit in the Glarner Alps rising to 3,328 meters (10,919 feet) between Uri and Graubünden cantons. It forms a natural boundary dividing the Maderanertal and Surselva valleys, creating a distinctive ridge line across the alpine landscape.

The mountain was first documented during climbing expeditions in the 19th century, establishing itself as a notable peak in the region. It has remained a significant landmark between the two cantons throughout subsequent centuries.

Local communities in both Uri and Graubünden cantons incorporate the mountain's image into their regional identity and traditional alpine farming practices.

Several hiking trails lead to the summit from different starting points, with the most popular route starting from the Golzerensee parking area. Trail conditions vary with the season and weather, so proper preparation for high alpine conditions is important.

The northern face of the mountain holds extensive glacier formations that act as natural water reservoirs throughout the year. These ice masses feed multiple alpine streams that supply water to the valleys below during all seasons.
