Hüfihütte, Mountain hut in Central Switzerland
Hüfihütte is a mountain shelter located in the Maderanertal region at 2337 meters elevation, providing sleeping accommodations for roughly 30 mountaineers plus two additional beds. The building features a separate winter room that sleeps six people without cooking facilities for those visiting during colder months.
The shelter was first built by the Swiss Alpine Club in 1899, replacing an earlier structure dating back to 1873. It underwent major reconstruction in 1937 to meet the needs of growing alpine activity.
The mountain shelter serves as a central meeting point for the Swiss Alpine Club Pilatus section, connecting hiking communities throughout the climbing season.
The shelter operates from June through September, making it accessible during the main hiking and climbing season in the region. Visitors should understand that reaching this high-altitude location requires mountain hiking experience or proper alpine skills.
The shelter sits above the Hüfi Glacier and Hüfi Lake, granting access to high-altitude routes toward several peaks. From this position, visitors can reach Claridenpass, Clariden, and Gross Schärhorn during multi-day alpine journeys.
