Oberbauenstock

Oberbauenstock is a mountain peak in Uri and Nidwalden, Switzerland, rising to 2,117 meters and overlooking Lake Lucerne from its slopes. The summit commands views across the surrounding alpine terrain and the lake valley below.

The peak formed during the Alpine mountain-building period millions of years ago when tectonic forces reshaped the landscape. This geological process created the mountain chain visible today across central Switzerland.

Local mountaineering clubs maintain several marked trails across Oberbauenstock, preserving traditional Swiss hiking routes for current and future generations.

The summit is accessible through several hiking routes of varying difficulty, with most climbs considered moderately demanding. The Niederbauen cable car can be used to gain initial elevation and reduce the hiking time required.

The mountain serves as a natural border between Uri and Nidwalden cantons, ranking as the 56th highest peak among 151 summits in Nidwalden.
