Parrotspitze, Summit in Monte Rosa Massif, Switzerland
Pointe Parrot is a summit in the Monte Rosa Massif that rises to 4,432 meters (14,537 feet) in the Pennine Alps. It sits among other high peaks within this vast mountain range in the Swiss-Italian border region.
The summit was first climbed in 1863 by British mountaineers and Swiss guides, marking a milestone in Alpine exploration. This successful ascent demonstrated the growing capability to tackle the region's high peaks.
The mountain carries the name of Johann Jakob Friedrich Wilhelm Parrot, a German physician who made early attempts to explore the Monte Rosa region.
Experienced mountaineers reach the summit via the west ridge route, which demands glacier experience and guidance from professional mountain guides. The route is technical and suitable only for climbers with proper Alpine training.
The mountain displays strikingly different shapes depending on the viewing angle: it appears pyramidal from the east and west but rounded when viewed from the north. This visual variation makes the peak seem like a different mountain from each perspective.
