Ludwigshöhe, Alpine summit in Monte Rosa massif, Italy
Ludwigshöhe is an alpine summit within the Monte Rosa massif along the Swiss-Italian border. The peak reaches approximately 4,341 meters (14,255 feet) and forms part of a larger mountain complex in this region.
The mountain was first climbed in 1822 when a surveying team conducted scientific measurements in the area. The peak remained largely unchanged since that early ascent and exploration.
The mountain received its name from Saint Louis IX of France, whose feast day coincided with the first recorded climb of the summit.
The ascent demands mountaineering skills and specialized equipment due to steep terrain and glacier conditions. Visitors should prepare for demanding circumstances and ideally bring an experienced mountain guide.
The summit serves as a geographical tripoint, connecting the Swiss canton of Valais with the Italian regions of Aosta Valley and Piedmont.
