Lenzerheide, Alpine resort village in Graubünden, Switzerland
Lenzerheide is an Alpine village at about 1,473 meters (4,830 feet) between Chur and Tiefencastel, surrounded by mountains and centered around Heidsee lake. The resort connects to neighboring Arosa via cable car, opening access to roughly 225 kilometers (140 miles) of slopes ranging from easy to challenging.
The village started in the second half of the 19th century when Toni Lenz built the first stone house, which housed an inn and postal office. This early infrastructure laid the foundation for its later growth as a winter sports destination.
The village takes its name from the farmer Lenz, whose family shaped the area for generations. Today, the buildings and layout still echo this alpine heritage while the place has transformed into a contemporary mountain resort.
The place sits beside a high-altitude lake with activities for both seasons, from water sports in summer to skiing in winter. Well-marked trails and slopes serve different ability levels, and visitor services are readily available throughout the area.
A biathlon center here opened in 2013 and has served as an international training and competition venue ever since. The site will host the 2025 World Championships, attracting athletes and spectators from around the globe.
