Glion Institute of Higher Education, university
Glion Institute of Higher Education is a higher education institution in Switzerland specializing in hospitality and luxury business studies. The main campus in Montreux occupies buildings that were once a luxury hotel and overlooks Lake Geneva and the Alps, while additional locations in Bulle and London provide alternative learning environments.
The institute was founded in 1962 as the Institut International de Glion, beginning with only 15 students from five countries at the site of a former hotel. A second Swiss campus in Bulle opened in 1989, and the London campus launched in 2013 to expand its reach.
The institute takes its name from Glion, a small hamlet above Montreux where the main campus sits. The student body represents nearly 100 nations, and this diversity shapes daily life on campus through different perspectives, languages, and ways of learning together.
The main campus sits above Montreux and is best reached by public transport running regularly from the town. Wear sturdy shoes since the grounds are hilly, and visit during term time when campus life is most active and you can see students at work and in classes.
The institute occupies buildings originally constructed as a luxury hotel that operated in that capacity until being converted into an educational facility. The main campus features a restaurant run by a Michelin-starred chef where students learn hospitality skills under real-world conditions.
