Schloss Brunegg, Medieval castle in Kreuzlingen, Switzerland
Schloss Brunegg stands as a two-story structure with a western chapel, built upon medieval foundations near Lake Constance in Thurgau Canton.
The original fortress, constructed around 1250, underwent major transformation in 1680 when the Obermarchtal Monastery demolished the old structure and rebuilt it entirely.
Prominent intellectuals Sigmund Freud and Friedrich Nietzsche spent time at the castle during important periods of their academic work in the late 1800s.
The castle now functions as a small hotel with five suites, offering accommodation near Lake Constance and includes a wine cellar and cigar shop.
Psychiatrist Ludwig Binswanger changed the castle's name to Brunegg in 1874, referencing the natural springs that surrounded the property at that time.
