Schloss Brunegg is a medieval castle in Kreuzlingen near Lake Constance, featuring two stories and a western chapel. The structure sits on foundations dating to around 1250 and was extensively rebuilt in later centuries.
The original fortress arose around 1250 and underwent radical transformation in 1680 when Obermarchtal Monastery demolished and rebuilt it entirely. This renewal shaped the structure as it appears today.
The castle hosted notable thinkers during the 1800s, becoming a place where intellectual ideas were shared and discussed. Its role evolved from a fortress into a center for conversation and reflection.
The castle now functions as a small hotel offering accommodations in five suites near Lake Constance. Guests can also find a wine cellar and cigar shop on the property.
A physician renamed the castle in 1874 after natural springs that once surrounded the property. This name has remained ever since and defines the place's identity.
