Lago Bianco, lake at the Bernina pass in the Grisons, Switzerland
Lago Bianco is a reservoir in Canton Graubunden. The water is fed by glaciers and takes on a milky white color from fine sediments carried by meltwater flowing into it.
The reservoir was created in the early 1900s to harness water for hydroelectric power. It forms part of a larger energy generation system developed in the high alpine region.
The lake is accessible via mountain trails in the eastern region and offers opportunities for hiking and exploring the surrounding area. The best time to visit is from June to September when snow coverage in higher elevations decreases.
The distinctive milky white color of the water is a sign of glacier activity in the nearby area. The water hue changes with the season depending on how much glacial meltwater flows into the lake.
