Uetliberg Aussichtsturm, Observation tower on Mount Uetliberg, Switzerland

The Uetliberg Aussichtsturm is a 72-metre steel lattice tower with a triangular footprint on the Uetliberg summit, in the municipality of Stallikon. An open viewing platform at 30 metres is reached by 178 steps. The tower also serves as a mobile-phone mast and stands about 200 metres from the 186.7-metre Uetliberg television tower.

The structure was built in 1990, replacing an older tower from 1894 that had been influenced by Eiffel Tower designs. The modernization brought a contemporary structure to this well-known mountain near Zurich.

The tower is nicknamed the "Anbau" (annex) of the Hotel Uto Kulm, which stands right beside it. About 200 metres away rises the 186.7-metre Uetliberg television tower; the two are called an "unequal pair" because of their very different heights and designs.

You can reach the tower comfortably using the S10 train from Zurich's main station, which takes you directly to Uetliberg station. From there, the climb is well signposted and takes just a few minutes.

On clear days, you can see Lake Zurich, the city, and the Alpine peaks from the platform, while on foggy days the view often sits above a thick fog layer. This contrast between fog in the city and clear air above makes visits particularly memorable.
