Wildhornhütte, Mountain hut in Bernese Alps, Switzerland.
Wildhornhütte is a mountain hut situated in the Bernese Alps at 2303 meters elevation near Iffigsee lake within a protected nature reserve. The facility provides dormitory-style sleeping arrangements for climbers and hikers moving through this alpine region.
The hut was originally built in wood in 1899 and reconstructed in stone following a fire in 1929. A later expansion increased the facility's capacity to welcome more visitors.
The Swiss Alpine Club manages this mountain refuge, maintaining alpine traditions through regional cuisine and communal dining experiences for mountaineers.
The hike from Lenk via Iffigenalp takes roughly two hours through alpine terrain to reach the hut. It operates seasonally from June through September and provides basic overnight accommodations in the mountains.
The hut serves as a base camp for reaching Wildhorn peak at 3248 meters and provides access to both Chichli and Tungel glaciers nearby. Many visitors use it as a launching point for multi-day mountaineering routes through the region.
