Sunniberg Bridge, Road bridge in Klosters, Switzerland.
Sunniberg Bridge is a road bridge spanning 526 meters across the Landquart valley and supported by four slender H-shaped concrete piers. These piers rise up to 77 meters tall and allow the structure to cross at heights of 50 to 62 meters above the valley floor.
Construction started in spring 1996 and was completed in 1998, though the opening ceremony took place in 2005 alongside the Gotschna Tunnel. This project followed years of planning to better distribute traffic through the region.
The bridge stands as a symbol of modern Swiss engineering and is often admired by visitors as an outstanding example of contemporary architecture. It shapes the landscape of the Prättigau region and is visible from many vantage points across the area.
The structure is part of the Klosters bypass road and is used daily by drivers traveling between valleys. The best views of the bridge are from the valley floor, where you can fully appreciate its height and design.
The structure blends characteristics of beam and cable-stayed designs, featuring external cables with outward-flaring pylons positioned above the road edges. This hybrid engineering approach was a technical innovation when it was built.
