Albignahütte, Mountain hut in Vicosoprano, Switzerland
Albignahütte is a mountain hut located at 2336 meters elevation in the Swiss Alps, offering about 85 beds for overnight stays. The building sits near Lake Albigna and serves as a base for hikers and climbers exploring the surrounding granite peaks and valleys.
The hut was founded in 1956 by the Swiss Alpine Club and was originally designed to provide safe shelter for mountaineers in this challenging terrain. Over the decades, it has become an essential supply point for expeditions into the surrounding mountain peaks.
The facility draws mountaineers from many countries who gather to share experiences and knowledge about the surrounding peaks and routes. This meeting of climbers from different backgrounds has made the place a natural gathering point in the high Alps.
The hut is best visited between June and October when trails are clear of snow and most facilities are in full operation. Getting there requires about an hour of hiking from the Albigna cable car station, so adequate preparation is needed.
Near the hut sit several massive granite boulders featuring over 50 climbing routes of varying difficulty, offering challenges from beginner to advanced climbers. This natural playground has made the area a major destination for sport climbers worldwide.
