Kossou Dam, Hydroelectric power station near Yamoussoukro, Côte d'Ivoire
The Kossou Dam extends 1,500 meters across the Bandama River, featuring three Francis turbines that generate electricity for the national power grid.
Constructed in 1972, the Kossou Dam project marked a major step in Côte d'Ivoire's infrastructure development, creating the largest lake in the country.
The creation of Lake Kossou transformed local communities, establishing new fishing traditions and agricultural practices along its 178-square-kilometer surface.
The dam produces 174 megawatts of electrical power through its three turbines, supplying energy to more than 118,000 households in Côte d'Ivoire.
Standing at 58 meters tall, the dam maintains a reservoir capacity of 27,675 million cubic meters, supporting both power generation and water management.
