Lacs d'Habitats

Lacs d'Habitats is a lake system in Yamoussoukro composed of multiple water bodies scattered throughout the city. These interconnected waters support diverse bird populations and aquatic wildlife throughout the year.

These lakes were developed as part of Yamoussoukro's urban expansion during the city's modernization period. They were deliberately engineered to function as part of the city's water infrastructure.

Local fishermen work these waters using time-honored techniques passed down through families. Their presence shapes how people interact with and depend on the lakes today.

The lakes are accessible year-round, with early mornings providing ideal conditions for bird watching and photography. Wear light clothing and bring water to stay comfortable in the tropical heat.

The lake system is part of a broader network of roughly thirty water bodies throughout Yamoussoukro that work together to regulate the city's water management. This extensive network makes the city one of the few places in West Africa with such a comprehensive engineered water system.
