Museum of Civilizations in Ivory Coast

The Museum of Civilizations spans 2 hectares with six main buildings, including exhibition halls, conservation workshops, and administrative offices at the intersection of Nangui Abrogoua Boulevard.

Established in 1942 by Governor Hubert Deschamps, the institution started as a handicraft center before evolving into a museum under the direction of curator Bohumil Holas in 1947.

The collection contains ten thousand objects representing Ivorian heritage, including masks, statuettes, musical instruments, archaeological discoveries, gold weights, and symbols of power from various regions.

The museum welcomes visitors from Tuesday to Friday between 9:00 AM and 6:30 PM, and on Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, offering guided tours and educational programs.

The permanent exhibition 'Identity and Cultural Mixing' combines traditional artifacts with contemporary art across five thematic areas exploring Ivorian civilization through different periods.
