Second bridge over the Wouri in Douala, Transportation bridge in Douala, Cameroon
The Second Wouri Bridge is a concrete structure that crosses the river in Douala, carrying both railway tracks and vehicle lanes on separate levels. The bridge features passage openings designed to allow river traffic to continue flowing underneath while connecting the city across the water.
The project began with a foundation ceremony and was completed several years later, advancing infrastructure development in the region. Its completion provided a new route for traffic and commerce across the river.
The bridge construction ceremony included traditional Sawa chiefs performing ceremonial rituals before unveiling the commemorative plaque in Douala.
Access to the bridge is available for various forms of transport since it accommodates both rail and vehicle traffic. Visitors should note that traffic can be heavy during peak hours.
The bridge deck varies in height from 7.5 meters at supports to 4.6 meters mid-span, supported by concrete pillars extending 65 meters into the ground.
