Ebo Wildlife Reserve, Wildlife reserve in southwestern Cameroon
Ebo Wildlife Reserve is a protected forest area in southwestern Cameroon that protects lowland and montane forests beneath a dense canopy. It contains numerous plant and animal species distributed throughout this diverse woodland habitat.
A research station was established in 2005 that launched biological studies of the area. These investigations revealed biodiversity levels comparable to other important biological centers in the region.
Local communities practice traditional food gathering and medicinal plant collection within the forest. These activities remain central to how people interact with the land today.
Access requires hiring local guides and following protection regulations for the area. Visitors should prepare for challenging forest conditions and allow sufficient time for exploration.
The reserve shelters a substantial population of Nigeria-Cameroon chimpanzees that find refuge here. These primates represent a significant portion of the global population of this rare subspecies.
