Shimao International Plaza

Shimao International Plaza is a 333-meter-tall office and commercial building in Shanghai with 60 floors, marked by distinctive diagonal braces running across its facade. The building combines retail space with a major hotel and makes efficient use of its triangular footprint.

The project began after ownership transferred from Wan Xiang Group to Shanghai Shimao Group in 2001 and was completed in 2006. Its completion marked a significant development in the modernization of Nanjing Road.

The shopping area below draws crowds of visitors browsing stores and restaurants throughout the day, while the hotel above serves guests who spend their evenings looking out over the cityscape.

The building sits centrally on Nanjing Road with good access via public transportation and multiple street-level entrances. The interior spaces are open for visitors who want to browse the shops or pass through the lobby.

The two spires at the top do more than catch the eye - they help the building stand out visually in a densely built cityscape. This feature makes the silhouette instantly recognizable from far away.
