Raffles City Shanghai, Commercial skyscraper in Huangpu District, China
Raffles City Shanghai is a 49-story skyscraper rising 222 meters in the Huangpu District. The building combines office spaces with a shopping center at ground level and features two basement levels with additional services and connections.
The building was completed in 2003 under development by Singapore-based CapitaLand. It represents an early example of modern commercial architecture that transformed Shanghai's business district.
The building stands as an example of Shanghai's transformation into a global financial center through its integration of retail and office spaces.
The geometric glass facade allows natural light to flow through the interior spaces generously. Visitors can easily navigate the shopping center and move between different levels.
Architects P & T Architects & Engineers designed the tower specifically to maximize daylight penetration throughout its interior spaces. This design choice makes the building feel remarkably open and naturally lit during daytime hours.
