Shanghai Concert Hall, Concert hall in Huangpu District, Shanghai, China
Shanghai Concert Hall is a concert venue in Huangpu District featuring European architectural design across two levels. The ground floor holds 640 seats while the upper floor has 482 seats, with a stage measuring 100 square meters.
The hall was founded in 1930 as Nanking Theatre and renamed Beijing Cinema in 1949 before becoming Shanghai Concert Hall in 1959. These name changes reflected the shifting political and cultural landscape of Shanghai's history.
The venue presents regular classical concerts, operas, and musical performances that blend Chinese and international artistic traditions. Visitors experience both Western and Eastern musical styles in the same space.
The venue sits at the intersection of Yan'an Road and South Tibet Road, easily accessible by public transport. It is best to arrive early to secure a good seat and familiarize yourself with the space.
In 2007, the entire 5,800-ton structure was lifted and relocated 66 meters eastward to make room for the Yan'an Elevated Road construction. This remarkable engineering feat showcased modern building technology in Shanghai.
