Shikumen Museum

The Shikumen Museum is housed in a restored 1920s residence located in Xintiandi, featuring seven rooms that display traditional Shanghai homes from that era. The spaces show how these houses were arranged and furnished for daily living.

The building dates from the 1920s, when Shanghai's housing combined traditional Chinese courtyard designs with European architectural influences. This blend of styles became characteristic of the city's residential architecture during that era.

The displays show furniture and everyday items that reveal how middle-class families lived and organized their homes during early 20th-century Shanghai. These objects offer insight into the daily routines and domestic arrangements of the era.
