Fuxing Park, Urban park in former French Concession, Shanghai, China
Fuxing Park is an urban green space in the former French Concession spanning 10 hectares with French-style gardens, fountains, and lakes throughout. The landscape includes covered pavilions, numerous flower beds, and pathways that connect different sections of the grounds.
The park was established in 1909 as Shanghai's largest green space and grew from a military camp during the French occupation period. It later transformed into the public recreation area it remains today.
Mornings bring groups of people gathering to practice tai chi, play mahjong, and perform traditional dances throughout the grounds. The space serves as a social hub where daily routines and customs of the neighborhood come alive.
The park is open from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM daily with multiple entry points near metro stations for easy access. Comfortable shoes are recommended since the grounds cover considerable space and include varied terrain.
The grounds contain over 1,700 ancient plane trees that create a thick canopy of branches overhead throughout the park. A large lotus pond in the southwestern section is surrounded by traditional pavilion structures.
