Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture

The prefecture spans 32,929 square kilometers across southeast Yunnan, featuring mountains, valleys, and the Red River flowing through its center.

Established in September 1957, the region became an autonomous prefecture to recognize the substantial populations of Hani and Yi ethnic groups.
