The Beijing Liao and Jin City Wall Museum contains a preserved water gate structure measuring 43 meters in length with a 21-meter tunnel system.
The museum opened in 1995 following the 1990 discovery of ancient water gate remnants connected to city walls from the Liao and Jin dynasties.
The underground exhibition space of 2500 square meters presents artifacts and architectural elements that illustrate daily life during medieval Chinese dynasties.
The museum offers free admission and stands 500 meters from Jingfengmen metro station on Lines 14 and 19 in southwestern Beijing.
The excavated water gate system represents engineering capabilities of 12th century Beijing when the area served as the Jin Dynasty capital of Zhongdu.
