The Gothic style church building spans 1,855 square meters with brick walls and features seating for 800 worshippers across multiple levels.

American missionary Alvin Pierson Parker established the church in 1881 as East Soochow Methodist Church to serve the growing Christian population.

The church represents the influence of Western religious architecture in Suzhou, combining Methodist traditions with local Chinese practices.

The church holds regular religious services and remains accessible to visitors through public transportation routes in central Suzhou.

Nobel Prize winner Tsung-Dao Lee's grandfather, Chong-tan Lee, served as the first chief pastor of this religious institution.
