The Suzhou Museum of Opera and Theatre contains exhibition rooms presenting artifacts, instruments, costumes, and historical documents related to Chinese performing arts.
The museum occupies the Quanjin Guild Hall, constructed in 1765 outside Chang Gate on Shantang Street during Emperor Qianlong's reign of the Qing Dynasty.
The institution displays traditional Kunqu opera performances on its classical stage, featuring an arched roof and caisson ceiling for acoustic enhancement.
Located at 14 Zhongzhangjia Lane, the museum opens Tuesday through Sunday from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with free admission for all visitors.
The Tower for Music Makers exhibits an orchestra of painted sculptures demonstrating traditional courtesy music performances from historical periods.
