Lai Chi Kok Park, Urban park in Sham Shui Po District, Hong Kong.
Lai Chi Kok Park is an urban park in Sham Shui Po, Hong Kong, featuring swimming pools, a tennis court, and several gardens distributed across more than 20 hectares. The grounds also include running paths and a sports center with indoor courts and playing fields.
The site was formerly a quarry and was converted into a public recreation area during the 1970s. Since opening it has become an important green space for the densely populated district.
The name comes from the nearby industrial district and the grounds now connect joggers, families with children, and older people practicing Tai Chi under pavilions. On weekends the lawns fill with groups who come to picnic or play ball games.
The grounds are accessible through several entrances and the paths are flat enough for wheelchairs and strollers. Main activity centers on early morning and late afternoon when temperatures are more comfortable.
The skatepark within the grounds is one of the largest such facilities in Hong Kong and draws both local and international skaters. The two large half pipes and ramps also attract spectators who watch the practice sessions.
