Lai Chi Kok Hospital, Grade III historic building in Sham Shui Po District, Hong Kong
Located at 800 Castle Peak Road, the former Lai Chi Kok Hospital encompasses multiple structures spread across 32,000 square meters of land in Kowloon.
The site transformed from a labor dormitory in the 19th century to military barracks in 1912, then an internment camp before becoming a hospital in 1937.
The building now functions as the Jao Tsung-I Academy, providing educational programs focused on Chinese culture and maintaining a conservation gallery.
The facility includes 85 guest rooms for visitors and offers free access to landscaped gardens, making it a center for education and accommodation.
The hospital specialized in treating infectious diseases, particularly leprosy cases, until 1974 when it shifted its focus to long-term psychiatric care.
