薄山水库, Stausee in der Volksrepublik China
Bo Shan Reservoir is a large water body in Henan Province that supplies water for irrigation, flood control, and power generation. The facility features a dam made of earth and concrete about 130 meters (430 feet) high, spanning an area of roughly 22 square kilometers (8.5 square miles).
Construction of the dam began in 1952 and was completed in 1954, initially creating a reservoir with a capacity of about 284 million cubic meters. Major reinforcement work conducted between 1981 and 1983 doubled the capacity to approximately 620 million cubic meters and significantly expanded the water surface.
The area has no major tourist facilities but offers quiet paths along the shore for walks and nature observation. It suits those who prefer open spaces and calm environments, where you may encounter local fishermen and visitors enjoying the surroundings.
The area served as a filming location for notable Chinese television productions, including the central television adaptations of "Journey to the West" and "The Long March". This film history connection makes it a place with unexpected cultural significance for visitors unfamiliar with these productions.
