Macau Tea Culture House, Museum and tea cultural center in São Lázaro, China

The Macau Tea Culture House is a museum in Lou Lim Ioc Garden on Avenida do Conselheiro Ferreira de Almeida, São Lázaro. Architect Carlos Marreiros designed the 1,076-square-metre building, which has three levels including a basement, a southern European exterior and a Chinese tiled roof. The ground floor displays tea poems, couplets, paintings, teahouses, merchants and customs; the first floor is used for tea tasting and activities.

Macau was a key transshipment port for Chinese tea exported to Western countries in the 17th century. The Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau built the house in Lou Lim Ioc Garden with supporters' backing; it was completed in late 2004 and opened on 1 June 2005. Architect Carlos Marreiros designed it, and the opening was led by bureau chiefs Lau Si Io, Leong Kun Hon and Si Tou Man Iek.

The house takes its theme from Macau's role as a 17th-century export port for Chinese tea to the West. Its two upper floors hold displays on tea poetry, couplets, paintings, teahouses, merchants and tea customs, and the second floor is used for tea tasting and tea-culture activities. Since opening it has hosted exhibitions and events of different formats.

The museum occupies the Lou Lim Ioc Garden at Avenida do Conselheiro Ferreira de Almeida, with 1,076 square metres over three levels including the basement. It closes on Mondays and stays open on public holidays, from 09:00 to 19:00, and admission is free. The exhibition rooms are on the first floor and the tea-drinking and activity space on the second.

The building was designed by architect Carlos Marreiros and rebuilt on the model of a Western-style structure, finished with a Chinese tiled roof. It opened on 1 June 2005, with the ribbon cut by three chairmen of the former Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau alongside Marreiros's wife and a representative of the tea house Chui Chi Hin.
