Lishimen Shuiku, body of water
Lishimen Shuiku is a large reservoir in the town of Jietou, Tiantai County, built to store water for local communities and farming. The concrete dam rises about 70 meters (230 feet) high and holds nearly 200 million cubic meters of water, with gentle hills and green fields surrounding the shore.
Construction of the reservoir began in 1973 and was completed in 1979 to manage water supply and prevent floods. The project was built as critical infrastructure to support the community and protect the region from water shortages and heavy rainfall.
Local people call this place Hanshan Lake, named after the Tang dynasty poet-monk Hanshan who once lived here in seclusion. This connection shapes how the community views the space today, giving it a reflective quality that visitors can feel.
The best time to visit is early morning or late evening when light is soft and the water reflects the sky clearly. Trails along the shore are simple and accessible, allowing visitors to walk at their own pace and enjoy the surroundings without difficulty.
The site served as a filming location for the 2021 war movie 'The Battle at Lake Changjin', appearing on screen as a dramatic backdrop. This unexpected film connection adds a layer of cultural significance beyond its original role as a water supply facility.
