Weiyuan Fortress, Zhenhai, Coastal fortified town in Zhenhai District, Ningbo, China.
The fortress stretches 360 meters along the coastline of Zhejiang Province, featuring stone walls and 44 cannon positions for maritime defense operations.
Built in 1835 by the Qing Dynasty, the fortress played a central role during the Opium Wars and participated in the 1841 Battle of the Bogue.
The fortress demonstrates Chinese military engineering techniques through its crossed platform design and strategic placement overlooking Hangzhou Bay waters.
Visitors can access the fortress grounds without entrance fees and explore the remaining structures while learning about coastal defense systems.
The fortress contains specialized cannon emplacements that were specifically designed to target ships navigating through the narrow Humen Strait passages.
