Ludwigsburg is a town near Stuttgart in the Neckar valley with residential areas, schools and shops spread across several districts. The center sits between parks and contains pedestrian streets with stores and cafes along wide avenues.
Duke Eberhard Ludwig of Württemberg founded the settlement in 1704 as a site for his hunting lodge north of the capital. The complex grew rapidly into a residence town and remained the seat of the Württemberg court until 1918.
The Ludwigsburg Palace contains three museums presenting regional art, fashion collections, and ceramics from different periods of German craftsmanship.
Regional trains and the S-Bahn connect the station to Stuttgart in about twelve minutes, with services running every ten minutes during rush hours. The station plaza provides access to local bus lines that reach residential districts and nearby villages.
An agricultural research center within the town develops grain varieties and farming techniques for growers in the region. Researchers test plant crops there for resistance to climatic shifts and soil conditions.
